[REVIEW] Diplomat Bakery

You know that moment where you crave cake? Whether it may be a cheesecake, or a super chocolate-y mousse cake? This is my favorite place to get cake!

I present to you: Diplomat Bakery!
Diplomat's store hours: [as of July 14, 2013]
Monday - Friday         9:00am - 5:30 pm
Saturday                   9:00am - 6:00 pm
Sundays & Holidays   10:00am - 5:00 pm
It's located south of Richmond -close to Steveston but not close, and not at a walk-able distance... unfortunately there are no buses that reach Diplomat Bakery. For me, I can bike there (half an hour trip) but I am not very familiar with the roads.

Thankfully my friend was happy to go on a dessert trip with me ^^

Diplomat Bakery is well-known for their cakes, but they also sell pastries, cookies and sandwiches- think of a coffee shop but with a HUGE selection of cakes

They were having a special (on the sign in the picture below) where you can buy 4 assorted slices of cake and get 1 slice free, OR buy 6 assorted slices of cake and get 2 slices free

I'm quite sure we won't be able to finish 5 slices of cake...

Each slice of cake retails for $3.95. Plus tax, it totaled to $4.15.

Every time I come here, I always have trouble making a decision....
Diplomat Bakery- cakes!

Diplomat Bakery- sandwiches and drinks
I got the blueberry cream cheesecake, while my friend got the strawberry NY cheesecake.
Diplomat Bakery- Blueberry Cream Cheesecake
The supposedly Graham cracker bottom that I'm used to in cheesecakes is now something I used to know. The bottom is just like a fresh baked cookie. It's crispy, and not too flavorful, but enough flavor that blends perfectly with the rest of the cake. The vanilla sponge cake is light and fluffy, as well as the blueberry cream cheese in the center. The side of the cake is covered with almond flakes.

Diplomat Bakery- Strawberry New York Cheesecake
The strawberry NY cheesecake also have the same cookie bottom. It's topped with a strawberry puree. The cheesecake is really smooth, it's a really good cheesecake but I personally don't like the cheesy aftertaste in my mouth.
I think if they incorporated strawberries into the cheesecake itself it would be better.

Food: (4.5/5) Excellent! I really love the cake there...But I've only tried their cakes. I really like the blueberry cream cheesecake, totally recommend it! I also recommend the hazelnut cake, the mango cream cheesecake, and the espresso cake. The espresso cake is more on the flavorful side compared to the hazelnut cake. The mango cream cheesecake and blueberry cream cheesecake are perfect for those who don't like super chocolate-y cake.

Service: (4/5) Friendly service. We sat down indoors and the place is very clean. The sad part is that Diplomat closes quite early.

Ambiance: (4/5) Perfect place to sit down and chat with a friend. A nice place to sit down and study, but again Diplomat closes around 5-6 p.

Value: (4/5) Definitely worth it- quantity and quality. My friend told me that Diplomat's cakes are way better than a certain place in downtown ;)

OVERALL: Definitely will come here again! I have to try something other than cakes though, their pastries seem so delicious but I was concentrating on the cakes more. ( ^^")
